In a Liberia ravaged by a civil conflict led by violent warlords and Charles Taylor’s corrupt regime, thousands of women–mothers, grandmothers, aunts, daughters, christians and muslims–united to pray for peace and participate in a silent protest at the gates of the presidential palace. Armed only with their white t-shirts and the strength of their convictions, they demanded the end of the civil war. Their action ultimately proved one of the crucial vectors for the beginning of the peace talks, as they succeeded in bringing the two opposing parties to gather around a table. Through archive images and testimonies from the principle protagonists of this movement, Pray The Devil Back To Hell comes back to this remarkable and courageous act of civil disobedience, by reminding us that change is always within our reach. We will welcome Leymah Gbowee, one of the instigators of the pacifist movement.
