Africa Fashion Show Geneva
Known for its vibrant range of colour, intricate patterns, and sometimes including artisanal workmanship, African fashion has come of age. Even with the challenges of access to western markets or outdated perceptions about African garb as “traditional” or “ethnic,” African-inspired fashion is finding its way on the runways of New York, Paris, London and now, Geneva.
In its fourth year, the Africa Fashion Show Geneva (AFSG) is expected to draw even more crowds than the thousands who attended previous shows. This is not just because of the colours, the food, the music, or even the mouth-watering designs on display, but because fashion can enhance culture, boost an economy and leave us with the sense that something as universal as style surely has the power to transform. The continent’s industry which represents the second largest after agriculture can be worth billions in the coming years if properly harnessed.
