Last month, the U.N. Human Rights Council held an urgent debate on systemic racism, in response to a call by the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown, and Philando Castile, together with over 690 civil society organizations, asking the UNHRC to respond to the situation of escalating human rights abuses in the United States. The debate resulted in a resolution, which calls on the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights to prepare a report on systemic racism and violations of international human rights law against Africans and people of African descent by law enforcement agencies. This webinar will discuss the geopolitical implications of the recent debate and resolution.
